Away victory in opening match of the season
PUBLISHED: 5th Sep 16

Penybont took a strong squad to Cascade and even without regular goal scorer Ashton Morgan.

Nikki Morgan took over in goal while the club seek a regular custodian with the regular back line of Katie Davies, Cerys Feeley and Ria Coates in front of her.

Penybont were caught cold on five minutes when a free kick came down off the bar and was headed home. The team spluttered as they tried to find last seasonís rhythm but the balls through the midfield were falling short or being eaten up by a solid Cascade defence.

On 20  minutes another free kick resulted in a mix up between defenders and the

Cascade forward slotted home an easy chance.

Shona Davies showed her class and her cross was hit over by Briony DeMott. Nikki Morgan showed good resolve in the goal to punch clear a threat but set pieces again caught Penybont out as a corner was headed home with little challenge.

This seemed to wake the team up as the half hour approached Daisy Stoakes dash down the wing and cross was nicely converted by DeMott from the edge of the area.

Sam Jackson shot wide after a run from half way as Penybont piled on the pressure and within two minutes the deficit was one as DeMott again ran clear and squeezed the ball in at the far post.

A neat one tow in the middle again put Jackson through and a neat move as half time approached saw Daisy Stoakes round the keeper only for the ball to go wide.

Lisa Starling came on to bolster the midfield and 10 minutes in new signing Shona Davies got on the end of a Jackson free kick to head over the keeper to level.

With a quarter of the game remaining DeMott again found space on the edge of the box and completed her hat trick as the ball squirmed past the keeper.

Another new signing Courtney Saunders came on and made her presence felt with a close one two with Daisy Stoakes and finishing from close range.

Cascade pulled one back with 15 minutes left but it was left to Briony DeMott to close the show after a Daisy Stoakes clearance was played through by Shona Davies and DeMott struck the top corner from 25 yards.

A good game to watch if not for the nerves.
