CUP WIN FOR RESERVES
Pontardawe Town are defeated

On Saturday, Penybont entertained Pontardawe Town at the KYMCO Stadium in the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Reserves Cup (Round One Group).

Penybont opened the scoring as early as the second minute through an Evan Denscombe 25-yard shot.

On 23 minutes, Penybont’s keeper Jonathan Davies made a point-blank save from Pontardawe’s Scott Williams.

Two minutes later, a through ball down the middle by Penybont’s Gavin Thomas resulted in a Matthew Symons’ goal.

Pontardawe pulled a goal back three minutes later when a mix-up near the goal line between Rhys Jordan and keeper Davies resulted in a Davies’ own goal.

In the 43rd minute, a pull-back by Nick Ivey lead to a Tom Davies’ shot which ended with an excellent one-handed save from Pontardawe’s keeper Damian Davies.

On the stoke of half time Penybont were awarded a free kick on the edge of the “D” from which Thomas hit the back of the net for a 3-1 half time lead for Penybont.

Three minutes into the second half, Pontardawe pulled a goal back through Williams, which proved to be the final score in a 3-2 victory for Penybont.

The second half was a scrappy, niggly affair with not much goalmouth action of note, except for the Pontardawe goal.

Penybont: Jonathan Davies, Ben Symons, Will Morris, Gavin Thomas, Josh Clements, Rhys Jordan, Nick Ivey, Kieran Davies (Gabriel Sanches Pessoa 55), Tom Davies, Evan Denscombe (Nigel Jordan 57), Matthew Symons. Subs not used: Chris Pothecary, Jamie Hodgkinson.
