EXCELLENT HOME WIN FOR PENYBONT OVER GOYTRE
Penybont move into second position
PUBLISHED: 22nd Apr 17

On Saturday, Penybont entertained Goytre at the KYMCO Stadium in a third versus second match in the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Division One.

In the ninth minute Barry referee, Ashley Davies, awarded Goytre a penalty when he adjudged that Penybontís player-manager, Rhys Griffiths, had committed a foul in the box.

Goytreís Josh Brown stepped up to take the penalty, only for Penybontís keeper, Rhys Wilson, to make a save low down to his right.

This seemed to spur-on Penybont and in the 30th minute a Marcus Griffithsí header from a Cullen Kinsella cross struck the crossbar.

Eight minutes later a 25-yard shot by Kinsella was well saved by Goytreís keeper, Nick Thomas, and a minute later another Kinsella shot was deflected for an unproductive corner.

However, Penybont with their dominant play were not to be denied when in the 42nd minute, a shot by Adam Carpenter was deflected into the path of Marcus Griffiths to score his 21st goal of the season (pictured).

A minute before half time, a long-range free kick by Penybontís Kane Owen was tipped over the bar by keeper Thomas.

Goytre came out for the second half determined to dominate the game but it was not until 76th minute when a Brown cross lead to a Lewis Sommersí equaliser.

Two minutes from time a shot by Penybontís Joe Hopkins was well saved by Thomas.

A minute from time, a Warlow shot hit the back of the net to give Penybont the lead again.

Penybont played out the game with possession football involving a series of short passes for an excellent 2-1 victory, and move above Goytre into second position in the table.

Penybont: Rhys Wilson, James Parry, Kane Owen, Adam Carpenter, Tom Atyeo, Rhys Griffiths, Owain Warlow, Cullen Kinsella, Kostya Georgievsky (Ioan Emanuel 84), Marcus Griffiths, Josef Hopkins. Subs not used: Billy Borge, Tom Davies, Rhys Jordan.
