On Thursday, Penybont travelled to Merthyr Town FC to play Cambrian & Clydach Vale in the Dafabet WPL Development League (South) Cup.

This was the second year of the competition, Penybont having played in the inaugural final which resulted in a 4-0 defeat to Cardiff Met University.

In the sixth minute, Penybont's Rhys Jordan headed just wide from a Josh Jones corner, and two minutes later, a long shot by Connor Goldsworthy was well saved by Cambrian's keeper Morgan Davies.

Cambrian took the lead in the ninth minute with a header from Connor Ray.

Penybont equalised in the 37th minute with a Danny Woolfenden goal from a Rob Symons cross.

Cambrian regained the lead in the 59th minute with a second goal for Ray.

Cambrian's Cameron Keech was just wide from a run and shot in the 63rd minute.

Three minutes later, a Matthew Symons "goal" from a Jones' cross was ruled offside by Port Talbot referee, Paul Fisher.

In the 73rd minute Penybont's Jamie Apperley had a shot saved low down by keeper Davies.

In the 75th minute, Penybont's Jordan was adjudged to have committed a foul just inside the box, Cambrian's skipper David Thomas dispatched the penalty for a 3-1 lead.

Three minutes later, a run into the box and shot by Cambrian's Sam Jones was just off target, and a minute later Penybont's Jones shot over the bar following a quick Goldsworthy throw-in.

In the 84th minute, a Sam Jones shot hit the far post and was grabbed by Penybont's keeper, Jonathan Davies, and Davies was called into action again three minutes later when he saved a Josh Maksimovic shot.

Cambrian put the game to bed in the 88th minute with a Kyle Jones shot from close range, and another close range effort from Maksimovic resulted in Cambrian's fifth and final goal to secure the cup win.
