On Tuesday, Penybont entertained Garden Village at the KYMCO Stadium in the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Reserves Cup round one group stage.
In the fifth minute Penybont’s Josh Jones (pictured) breezed past five Village players before being brought down in the box. He converted the resultant penalty.
Five minutes later, a shot by Village’s Harry Smith was well saved by Penybont’s keeper Jonathan Davies for a corner.
In the 30th minute a long free kick by Village’s Scott Hayward was again saved by Davies, and a minute later Penybont’s Jones’ long shot was saved by Village’s keeper Luke Jones.
A further minute later, a long free kick by Village’s Hayward was tipped over the bar by Davies for an unproductive corner.
In the 42nd minute a Connor James shot for Penybont from a Ben Cripps pass was pushed wide by Jones for a corner. From the corner Penybont’s Nick Ivey’s shot hit the underside of the bar, then Tom Lillico shot wide.
HT – Penybont 1, Garden Village 0
In the 68th minute, Penybont's Cullen Kinsella crossed for a Ben Cripps' header which was saved low down at the post by keeper Jones.
In the 75th minute, Jones was again called into action saving a Lillico shot from a Danny Woolfenden pass.
Somewhat against the run of play, Village equalised two minutes later through Hayward.
Penybont restored their lead five minutes later with an unstoppable 35-yard free kick by Kinsella.
Penybont’s Reserves sealed the victory in their final game of the season five minutes from time when James fired home a rebound off the cross bar from a Jones shot.
