A word from the Boss.

Good Evening everyone and welcome to the Kymco for tonight’s pre season clash with Newport County.

Hello everyone and welcome to our third pre season fixture versus Newport County FC. Ideally, such a tough fixture would have been our last before the season starts to ensure maximum fitness levels, but nevertheless the players have worked extremely hard up to now. Their attitudes have been spot on during training - including a dreaded visit to the infamous ‘Big Dipper’ - Merthyr Mawr. We welcome Newport County, a previous club for both myself and Martyn Giles. I was there for the second half of the 2012/13 season when the club finally returned to the football league via the Conference Play Off Final at Wembley. I loved my time at the club. The squad was on a mission to gain promotion and we had a great team spirit. Actually, there was what I would describe as a poisonous humour within the group which was great fun to be part of. Unfortunately, I had an injury that needed surgery whilst at the club and so I didn’t play as much as I’d have liked. Hopefully I contributed something en route to the Wembley success. Within that squad were some of the current Newport players, so it’ll be good to catch up with them today. Of course Michael Flynn was also integral that season, and he is now doing a great job managing the team. Long may it continue. From a football perspective, a fixture like this is great for our preparations as we look to mount a serious title challenge this season. However, the supporters of Newport are brilliant and follow the club in big numbers. Hopefully this is the case today as well. For our own supporters, the game will be another chance to see how we’re shaping up. We still have one or two injured players that need protecting and a couple more unavailable, but we’ll be looking to put together a good performance to do the club proud. Thanks to all for coming along today, I hope to see you all again in the coming weeks.
