PUBLISHED: 23rd Jul 18
On Saturday the 28th of July, we welcome STM Sports to the Kymco Stadium for a pre season friendly. This will be our last home friendly before the new season begins.  Kick off is at 2:30pm, come along and join us.

STM Sports are a Welsh League Division 2 side and had a great season last year as they only just missed out on a promotion spot to the 1st Division after finishing in 4th place by just 3 points!

Brief History: -

The Team is currently managed by Gareth Morgan, Dominic Dwyer and Coach Rhodri Morgan and played in the Cardiff Combination Premier League until season 2010 / 2011 when we were promoted to the South Wales Amateur League, Division 3

We secured the South Wales Amateur League 2nd Division League Title at our first attempt -

We finished 7th in our first season in Division 1 (2011 / 2012) and reached the semi-final of the South Wales Football Association Senior Cup ,

Season (2012 / 2013) started well, we reached the final of the SWFA Senior Cup where we played Rhoose FC on May 10th 2013. We were proud holders of the SOUTH WALES FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION SENIOR CUP after beating red hot favourites, Rhoose FC, 4-2 after extra time.

It was always going to be a tough game and that was what it proved to be. We went 1-0 up when Lee Palfrey was brought down in the box and Chrissy Davies converted. We then managed to concede two goals before half time and went in 2-1 down. As this point Rhoose were confident that they were going to go on an win the match but this was never going to happen !!!!

We kept battling and had long periods of possession but could not seem to score, Rhoose also had chances and could not score either. With 2 mins left Dwaine Strong entered the game, his header went straight to Chris Worsley who struck the ball from 18 yards out and scored, 2-2 with 30 seconds left, we held out.

In extra time we dominated and looked the fitter side, Chris Worsley scored again with a curling shot from 20 yards out, and then wrapped the game up with another to make it 4-2. - a night to remember.

In the League we suffered with the Cup runs but finished 5th, an improvement on the previous season. And the following season we finished 4th.

2014 / 2015 - we took the decision to move to a new 3G ground at the University in Llanrumney, Cardiff........ this helped our style of football no end.

Finished as Champions of SWAL Div 1 - Had to lodge an appeal to gain entry into the Welsh League then beat Pontlottyn 4-1 at Cardiff City Stadium - Welsh League here we come 2015 / 2016.

Nathan Cadette (ex-Cardiff City) took over at the helm and we had a great 1st Season in the Welsh League, finishing 4th, having been at the top or close to the top all season. We also reached the final of the SWFA Floodlit Senior Cup, eventually beaten by 1st division Taffs Well. We went one better the following season and finished runners up to Llantwit Major, even after having 3 points deducted, unjustly in our opinion.

Full credit to Nathan Cadette and the players. Sadly Nathan resigned after gaining promotion due to his work commitments.

By the end of May we were interviewing for a new management team, despite lots of interest, local trio Gareth Morgan (Manager), Dominic Dywer       (Assistant Manager) & Rhodri Morgan (Coach & Physio), were the ones for us.

Gareth's new signings have blendied in well with our promotion winning squad and the season and so far we have done quite well in our first season    in Division 2 and are having a good run in the League Cup

We are now in our tenth season, having started right at the very bottom of the Welsh Pyramid system and this season we now have an Under 19's side in the Welsh League Youth Division and an Under 11's in the Cardiiff & District Football League, with more to some next year.
