Penybont 50’s crowned champions!

Penybont 50’s were crowned champions on Sunday after their main contenders The Continental lost 3-1 to Barry in the morning. They went on to beat Swansea 55’s by 4-0 to secure the top spot.

After a shaky start stand in keeper Les Davies pulled off a great penalty save after Wayne hosey had bundled a swansea forward over in the box. After that the team settled down and Ellis tapped the ball in from a few inches after a defensive error. Mr reliable( most of the time) Lewis then made it 2-0 after a delicate through ball by  team captain watts. The second half produced another two goals by Lewis to take him to 17 goals for the year and a comfortable win in the end.

This has been an outstanding year for the 50’s team remaining undefeated for the year so far ( emulating the 1st team). The squad have all played a part through the season when some of the star players were unavailable. This has helped the team in their success( especially a 0-0 draw away to merthyr when 6 players were absent)
We are now looking forward to the 50’s cup final which takes place at Ystrad Mynach on 19th May a 1pm ko v Cwmbran.
